  •  “A Bigger Drain Hole in the Great Lakes Threatens Region’s Environment, Economy” Press Release
     TORONTO, ONTARIO (January 24)— Shoreline alteration, historical aggregate riverbed mining and navigation dredging are resulting in ongoing erosion at the bottom of the St. Clair River and have resulted in the permanent and continuing lowering of water levels on Lakes Michigan and Huron, according to a new report issued today.   • An preliminary report by W.F. Baird & Associates Coastal Engineers Ltd., a well respected consulting firm hired by the GBA Foundation. This report is an initial review of the recorded drop in the difference of lake levels between Lake Huron (including contiguous Georgian Bay and Lake Michigan) and Lake St. Clair. This letter presents a preliminary discussion of the issues surrounding this observation including possible causes of the drop in the difference between the lake levels.(March 2004) (pdf 90k)
