Member Association Page - Key River Area

Key River Area Association:

  • Located on the northeast shore of Georgian Bay,
the area includes the Key River, the Bustard Islands,
the outlet of the Pickerel River and part of the French
River Heritage Park. This gorgeous area boasts an
interesting historical past, some of the best scenery,
wonderful sunsets, good fishing and remote isolation
found anywhere on the Bay. Visitors to the area are
encouraged to contact one of the local businesses
and enjoy the area while not disturbing our pristine environment.

Local Issues and Projects

The Key River Area Association (formerly the Key Harbour Association) represents 100 seasonal and permanent residents in northeastern Georgian Bay. Through several active committees and membership in the Georgian Bay Association, the interests of our members are represented to Government and other stakeholders.

Major initiatives include the marking of the main boating channel, annual pot-luck dinner, a fish upgrading program, fire pumps and regular board meetings. An emergency helicopter-landing pad was completed on July 11, 1998.

With the low water levels, 42 buoys have been installed in the river, but many people are still hitting bottom. (Use the channel at your own risk.) Please go slow!
