Blastomycosis Pet Warning
Every summer, pets are as happy as their owners to return to the Bay. However, owners need to be aware of the blastomycosis spores that can lurk in wet and rotting logs and vegetation lying on the ground. These pose little problem for humans as we do not regularly rummage through the forest litter. However, our pets do.
City veterinarians are not used to watching for symptoms of blastomycosis which can be life-threatening to dogs or cats. So if your pet comes down with mysterious, flu-like symptoms, be sure to advise your vet that the pet has been in the northland and may have been exposed to blastomycosis spores.

Don't Invite Bears to the Cottage
Most problems between black bears and humans occur when bears are attracted by the smell of, and rewarded with an easy meal. Take precautions and follow the simple rules of the Bear Wise program
South Georgian Bay Conference
Recently, GBA hosted the 2010 South Georgian Bay Conference. Representatives came from a total of ten community associations in the Township of Georgian Bay, including all five of the GBA member associations in the municipality (Honey Harbour, Cognashene, Mad Club at Go Home Bay, Wah Wah Taysee and Twelve Mile Bay) plus the five inland non-GBA member associations.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues in common across the Township and determine how to make sure that these issues get addressed by all candidates leading up to the 2010 municipal election.
The participants agreed that a separate citizens' committee will be struck to flesh out the issues raised during the day, interview candidates for office, publish their findings and get the vote out so as to ensure the strongest possible municipal council for the next four years.
A few representatives from GBA associations in other townships also attended to gain ideas about how they too can get organized for the 2010 municipal elections. Should your organization want to learn more about the ideas generated at the South Georgian Bay Conference, contact Bob Duncanson for the Minutes of the Meeting.
